Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a role-playing game with slasher elements developed by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games. The publisher is Electronic Arts. The game was designed for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The action takes place in the fictional world of Amalur, created by the famous author Robert Salvatore.
According to the plot of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, a gnome inventor was able to recreate a device capable of resurrecting the dead. The huge construct was called the Well of Souls. Besides resurrection, the Well possesses another amazing property. In the world of Amalur, everything is subject to the line of fate, and no one has the right to attempt to change it, but if the deceased is resurrected with the help of the Well of Souls, then they have the right to build their own destiny. Thus, higher powers lose their control over the soul of the resurrected. You play as one such lucky (or, conversely, unlucky) individual in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. The main character awakens among rotting corpses. They realize they have been killed but must figure out why they were resurrected and who the villain is that did this to them. Although resurrection is clear—it was all thanks to the Well of Souls. As the game progresses, the main character gradually gets involved in various quests and adventures, where even concern for their own fate takes a back seat. Indeed, at stake is the fate of the Kingdom, which is threatened by an ancient evil.
Before starting the game, you can practically create your character from scratch—change their face, choose their clothing, draw tattoos, and so on. Overall, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is rich in various RPG elements, so players won't get bored. They can engage in crafting weapons and equipment, modify armor parameters, practice alchemy, and explore the mysterious properties of ancient artifacts. It’s worth noting that there are no strict classes in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, so players can quite flexibly "set up" their characters, down to the point where they can switch from warrior to mage and vice versa at any moment.
The main feature of the game is, of course, the battles. Any class is designed for brutal combat. If it’s clear what a warrior does—they slice and dice enemies with their swords or swing a massive war hammer, sending foes flying—the same cannot be said for mages. The sorcerers in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning are also not averse to engaging in melee. Instead of ordinary shields, they use energy fields and wield two throwing discs in battle. However, mages wouldn’t be mages if they didn’t utilize magic. They can conjure such elemental havoc (like meteor showers) that all living things perish in an instant. Thus, each class represented in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning can showcase intriguing and even unusual abilities.
