Halo: Reach is a first-person shooter and the prequel to the very first game in the Halo series, Halo: Combat Evolved. The action in Reach takes place in the year 2552: humanity is mired in war with the Covenant forces, and the end is near. Nevertheless, the human race continues to fight and resist the alien scourge. The player takes on the role of one such fighter and must help humanity win the battle for the planet Reach.
The gameplay of Halo: Reach resembles the first part of Halo more than the subsequent games in the series. The main character is equipped with an automatically recharging energy shield, which absorbs damage from enemy weapons or falls from heights. When the shield is overloaded and disabled, the hero begins to lose their own health. Lives can be restored using medkits scattered throughout the levels.
Among the capabilities and other equipment of the hero are jetpacks, active camouflage, the ability to lock armor and thus turn into a small but invulnerable and vicious turret, and more. In Halo: Reach, alongside the refined old types of weapons, the developers also added several new guns.
On the day of its release, Halo: Reach brought more than 200 million dollars to Microsoft. Thus, Halo: Reach earned the title of the most successful game in the series. The press also warmly received Halo: Reach, which, unfortunately, will be the last game under the Halo brand created by Bungie. The development of all subsequent projects in the series will be carried out by Microsoft’s subsidiary 343 Industries.
