Divinity: Original Sin is a turn-based role-playing game developed and released by Larian Studios on June 30, 2014. Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux. Publisher in Russia: "1C-SoftClub". Original Sin, a prequel to the famous Divine Divinity, resulted from crowdfunding on Kickstarter and other services, with a total 'pot' of several million dollars. Players who contributed a certain amount to the project received special in-game bonuses.
Unlike Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, which is a third-person role-playing game, Original Sin offers an isometric perspective. The project features two main characters; gamers create them on their own by choosing their appearance, skills, stats, and gender. Interactions between the protagonists are an important aspect of Original Sin. During gameplay, heroes can argue and dispute, reconcile and befriend, hate and even love each other. Naturally, this depends on how the player behaves, what actions they take, and what responses they choose during dialogues. Interestingly, both heroes participate in conversations with NPCs.
One of the features of Divinity: Original Sin is that the game features an interactive world. Any items, be it frying pans, cups, or rotten fruits, can be picked up and placed into the inventory. Additionally, many items can be combined with each other, allowing seemingly incompatible items to be fused together to create unique items, from potions to equipment and weapons. Of course, the concept of interactivity doesn't end there. Many objects – even logs or boulders – can be moved from place to place (for example, to barricade a narrow corridor and gain an advantage in an upcoming battle). Some things can be broken. Others can be blown up.
In addition to the main storyline, Divinity: Original Sin has a great many side quests and narrative branches that are not directly connected to the plot. There are also various secrets, caches, and other "allurements" that belong to the category of "explore the world completely – from A to Z." However, peacefully examining the surroundings is hardly possible – the game world is filled with hostile creatures that the protagonists must fight. Battles occur in a turn-based fashion, using action points, flanking attacks, and both direct and stealth attacks. In battle, players can use the environment and combine attacks, using various elements. The player controls the actions of all characters simultaneously, but the game also provides the option to play through scenarios in cooperative mode.
