Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a linear first-person shooter released for Xbox, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game was developed by the American studio Infinity Ward and published by Activision. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released on November 10, 2010, and on its first day, it sold millions of copies (5.7 million copies). It is a direct continuation of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
The events of the game take place five years after those described in the first part of Modern Warfare. We will also play as various fighters from several branches of the military. According to the plot, the player will be thrown into many countries where conflict situations are brewing. Here, you have cold Russia (with the controversial mission “No Russian” cut from our version), and hot Afghanistan, and dangerous favelas of Brazil, as well as Kazakhstan, the USA, and Earth's orbit (a small episode).
The plot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is completely linear and heavily scripted. This game does not differ from previous or subsequent games in the series. You are required to complete similar tasks with Western special forces and regular troops, mainly reduced to one: get there, kill, destroy, blow up, chase, and blow up, chase and kill. Each mission impresses with its special effects and cinematic style in the best Hollywood traditions. You shoot down an enemy helicopter with a rocket launcher, and it explodes in the air, scattering into small pieces of metal. In the next mission, you race on a snowmobile, fiercely shooting at enemies chasing you, and soon you find yourself hanging over a deep chasm, hoping your partner will be able to lend you a hand.
Despite the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 creates the illusion of a living and dynamic world, it is a typical representative of the "corridor" shooter genre, lacking any freedom of action. Until the player does something important or crosses an invisible point, the gameplay will not progress. This approach not only facilitates the careful design of each object, game situation, or level as a whole, but also confines the player to the strict boundaries of a linear shooter.
The game features an enormous variety of firearms, so Call of Duty fans will surely be satisfied with the total diversity of "guns." While the arsenal can be replenished during battle in single-player mode, in multiplayer it must be gradually unlocked by earning experience points. Overall, the multiplayer, as before, delights with its polish, a large number of perks, achievements, and gameplay dynamics. In addition, there are about twenty different modes and a multitude of bonuses awarded for consecutive kill streaks.
