Guide to the Mobile Sniper
How not to be a burden?
Greetings. Today I'll straightly and clearly explain how to stop being a burden to your team and start providing real value while having a score other than 5\10\0. First, let's consider the concept of a sniper.
There are two types of military snipers: infantry snipers and regular snipers. Let’s explore them a bit more closely.
A regular sniper works alone (sometimes with a spotter), shoots at extreme distances, camouflages excellently, and is very dangerous in general. Such types of snipers are used in foreign armies, particularly in the US Army. A lot of time and effort is dedicated to camouflage – both sound and visual. They are the ones who use the famous shaggy ghillie suit that scouts wore in Bad Company 2. These snipers operate OUTSIDE the squad (they are essentially a separate combat unit) and provide support only on command. They specialize in reconnaissance, shooting at extreme distances (around a kilometer and beyond), eliminating key targets (officers, for instance), and directing artillery. This image of the sniper became popular thanks to many films (and, to some extent, games).
Because of their popularity, every second player, wanting to be the invisible invincible long-range horror who is free from any danger, picks up a rifle with a sliding bolt, a x12 scope, lies on some crane, and stays there shooting at equally clueless players all round while occasionally getting stabbed in the face. Due to a huge bonus for long-range headshots (just by the law of probability, sooner or later, a bullet will hit someone), this body considers itself some OMG killer and the best in its team. DON’T! Don’t make the same mistakes! We are interested in a different type of sniper – the infantry snipers.
This sniper, unlike his ultra-long-range counterpart, works at lesser distances – only up to 500 meters. Infantry snipers (PS) belong to the squad (AKA the section) and are needed to provide FIRE SUPPORT. Infantry do not cope well with machine gunners and other grenade launchers, so the job of the infantry sniper is to take them out before they inflict serious damage on the squad. This type of sniper was used (and still is) in the Soviet Army and later in Russia. They don’t use special camouflage, move together with the squad, and obey the commander. As we see, this kind of sniper, pursuing entirely different objectives than the lone sniper, is much more useful and needed for the squad. And since we have a team (surprise!) game here, it should be obvious what role you need to perform.
