Rogue: Author's Guide
Hello. I decided to write my own subjective opinion about the rogue, since we've more or less figured out the skills, and each person's methods of leveling up, development, and gameplay tactics are different. However, I still decided to share my experience with you and hope that some of you will find this post interesting (and if it helps you, then I'll just pee from... I will be very happy).
I must immediately disappoint lovers of bows and arrows. There is nothing written here about archers. My post is exclusively about melee rogues.
So, let's take a look at why I fell in love with the rogue in this game, enough to write a small guide about him.
I loved that the rogue, in my opinion, is the best DPS character in the game.
Okay, I might have overdone it with the lyricism, let's get down to business.
To create a rogue, you simply need to select the icon
in the character creation window. This class is available to all races, but every sane person will tell you that it's best to create a human due to their decent racial bonuses to stats.
Now let's talk about the stats. What should a true rogue be like? Yes, that's right, nimble and cunning. Let me show you my version of the stat build at level 18:

Now let's be more specific about each stat:
Strength: Strength is everything for us at the beginning of the game, it's nothing by the end. Why? Because strength only becomes necessary until we take the talent "Deadly Strike." What kind of talent is that? Besides other perks, it changes the value of strength in the damage and attack formula to that of cunning. After that, strength is only necessary to meet armor requirements.
Dexterity: The main stat. Provides a lot of good things, has a very positive effect on defensive parameters (namely - ability to dodge a hit, or block it with a weapon) and physical resistance. Also directly influences attack power.
Willpower: Guys, we're not berserkers. We don't really need this stat. You will see why later.
Magic: With good aggro control from the tank, we almost never require healing, managing with small potions. Forget about this stat =)
Cunning: The second most important stat. At a certain point in the game, it will replace strength. Affects persuasion, lockpicking, and (!) many rogue abilities, including backstabs.
Constitution: Our focus is on evasion, not bulk; it’s better to invest in dexterity. However, it's worth leveling this stat a couple of times so you don't fall from two hits of magic or a hammer.
Next come the perks. Perks are given to us at levels 1 and 2, and thereafter - every other level. Here's how they were allocated at the same 18 level:

Everything is clear here. Poison - a very useful thing. At the beginning of the game, acid flasks are incredibly powerful weapons. Plus, I have already encountered two quests where you need to craft poison. In Lothering and Denerim.
Persuasion - as my character. A must-have for any rogue as it depends on cunning, and you won't find anyone smarter than our rogue.
Combat Training - mandatory, we are not mages.
Trap Making I advise to leave to another party member, but invest in it once to be able to place traps (if you're leveling invisibility).
Having decided on the beginnings - it's time to find out what makes the rogue unique. Our main task is DPS, which sharply increases from level 8-9. Believe me, the rogue isn’t just for opening locks. When used correctly in a group with a tank and two mages (healer and nuker), the rogue becomes the main source of damage:

And this is far from the limit.
So, how do we achieve such damage? The answer is simple, we just need to hit from behind. Nature itself has given us the opportunity for backstabs. We need to use this opportunity very actively - at any chance we get. What do we gain from attacks from behind? A very big increase in damage (each backstab is almost like a critical hit, compared to hitting "in the face") and up to +4% to critical hit chance. Not bad, right? Now, let's see how to hit from behind correctly:

That is, the closer we are to the center of the "butt," the higher the damage we deal. The "Butt" itself is marked by a black section on the enemy’s indicator circle. Got that? Now let's look at the talent table and see those that will make it easier for us to get behind:
Movement in Combat: An excellent talent. No need for much explanation. Where is it easier for you to hit:
Here
or
here
I think you understand me =)
The second ability is Mercy Strike. If the opponent is stunned or paralyzed, you don't even need to get behind: hits from any angle are considered backstabs with maximum bonus. After leveling this talent, I strongly recommend inserting paralysis runes into your weapons and actively using death root extract =)
So, we've figured out backstabs. Now we need to increase DPS through attack speed. How to increase it:
Forget about the sword + dagger combo. Dual daggers will always outpace this combo in damage dealt. Precisely due to attack speed, critical hit chance, and armor penetration factors. From now on, no swords! A good sword is better given to the tank - your teammate.
Potion of Agility. We brew it ourselves - a good ally for increasing attack speed.
The talent "Surge." After leveling it, the rogue unlocks their true potential.
Let’s summarize the skills:
Branches that need to be leveled:
the rest at your discretion. Basically, I advise spending the remaining points on specialization points.
The topic of equipment:
Weapons:
Best:

In the meantime, we use loot weapons and can buy this from the Dalish:

Armor:
Best:

Also quite good:

For those above, we wear this:

So, as a result, we have a real party rogue focused on even damage dealing (almost without using skills) using passives and talents like "supported."
The main thing is not to get hit by the enemy's aggression: let them hit the tank, turning their back to you =)
I was glad to help, ready to hear criticism. Waiting for comments.
