Castlevania Curse of Darkness (PS2) - a few words about the game and the translation from PSCD.ru
Castlevania Curse of Darkness (PS2)
The Castlevania series has been around for a long time. The early episodes were entirely in 2D, later the series began to shift to 3D (Castlevania on Nintendo 64, Lament of Innocence on PlayStation 2), while some parts of the series still remained in 2D (the numerous installments released on GameBoy Advance). Castlevania Curse of Darkness is a continuation of Castlevania Lament of Innocence, also in three dimensions. This installment boasts a lot of music, graphics, monsters, and, of course, the confrontation of the descendants of the Belmont family against Dracula. Apparently, this confrontation is endless to the delight of the series fans.
Curse of Darkness is the second 3D Castlevania on the PlayStation 2. Additionally, this installment was released on Xbox. Konami added a lot of new features to the video game while continuing to transition their 2D gothic action into 3D.
The gameplay in this project includes role-playing elements such as skills, leveling up, and items. Just like in the classic Castlevania Symphony of the Night, we explore a large castle. Castles have always been beloved locations in the series. Remember Castlevania on NES, SNES, GBA? This video game has always featured castles! It's great that we have a large arsenal of weapons through which we fend off monsters. Here you will find swords, both one-handed and two-handed, spears, fists, and axes. If you enjoyed leveling up your familiar in Symphony of the Night, here you will be invited to develop your innocent Devil (ID). Its purpose is similar to that of the creature from SOTN. This being will assist you, and sometimes you'll need it to access secret or hidden locations. To level up the creature, you must use it.
Your creatures do not die; they can always be brought back into the game. Moreover, you can have several of them. But only one can be summoned at a time and run around with you. So, you can practically collect a whole zoo of demons. Furthermore, each demon can perform something specific.
A fun innovation more characteristic of the RPG genre than Action is the ability to steal from monsters or bosses. You can borrow something from any enemy. When you activate the ability, you aim at the enemy and must make the indicator near them turn purple. Sometimes, you'll just need to wait a while, and for some enemies, you may need to hit them. Then you will be able to steal something valuable.
The gameplay is built on the destruction of monsters. We will be fighting a lot and will hardly be solving puzzles and riddles. As you move from room to room, expect monsters, not riddles. You can also buy healing items and so on. Defeated monsters drop materials, not weapons. That is, monsters do not drop swords and armor. All of that we will craft; thanks to this weapon system, there is plenty here. Rare materials can be obtained from bosses. This is an important part of the game's strategy.
The character movements are very well executed, which is important because the game is inherently dynamic, and we will be moving a lot. There are many types of enemies, some of which are just differently colored clones of their main type. The controls in the game are similar to its predecessor on the PlayStation 2 - Castlevania Lament of Innocence. The controls are convenient. It was unlikely that anything different would be expected. Graphically, the video game is good and fits well into its era. Although it's not stunning here, it looks pleasant.
Since we have a game about mysticism and vampires in a gothic setting, the story and atmosphere in the project are very important. This has been true for all parts of the series. Here, we play as Dracula's bodyguard named Hector. It's a pleasure for fans of the series to see echoes of previous installments. The fact is that Dracula is dead from the whip of Trevor Belmont (this happened in Castlevania 3). And a certain second henchman of Dracula named Isaac is taking revenge on you for his death. He believes you are responsible for the death of the famous vampire. This is just the beginning of the storyline. Later, we will meet many other characters with their stories. The story narration is complemented by cutscenes. They are brief but pleasing to the eye. The story is good. Of course, it doesn't reach the level of Final Fantasy, but it's good!
The video game is larger in size compared to Lament of Innocence. After completing the game, you will be able to play as another character, and the Crazy Mode will be unlocked.
In the press, the video game received high scores. Although there were also average ratings, such as Gamespot giving it a score of 7, deeming it too monotonous.

We are pleased to present to you our latest project. It is a joint effort between the VIT Company website and PSCD.RU - the translation of the game Castlevania - Curse of Darkness for PS2.
Another game in the Castlevania series. Overall, the plot of the series "Curse of Darkness" is a rather predictable story about love and hatred, friendship and betrayal, and, of course, the eternal confrontation of good and evil. If you are not yet familiar with the Castlevania universe, you now have a good reason to do so.
