1C — The Challenges of Translation.
The license from 1C pleased with the presence of a key for the game with street fighters from around the world, but it did not want to please with localization.
All the editors of the company, apparently, were on vacation at the moment of the game's translation, and someone entrusted this gloomy task to the nearest prompt.
The translation turned out to be awkward in places and literal in others. There are typos here and there, and somewhere someone invents new words or replaces old ones with English. Not everything is translated, and not everywhere, but selectively and in places.
You can start the review with simple typos, of which there are plenty. For example, like this:
in one of the challenge modes
---
Or like this:
this greets you every time you enter live
---
And this is how the prompt translated the phrase literally:
(seeing red — to become enraged)
In bloody red, yes
-
And again:
I am looking for something
---
Or this moment:
Where do they say that? To honor, to allow, to oblige, to condescend, finally — there are many options.
(to do honor — to show respect)
-
Here’s another gem from Mighty Bison:
that’s quite a fetishist
---
Let's enter the championship mode, create a match:
In fact, in Russian, the word Lobby means something quite different, but since it has become well-established in games, the demand for translation is minimal.
And birthmark is just an indicator of mood.
---
If we want to look at the combo list, we will see something like this:
And sit and guess, is Es strong or weak? Or maybe, medium? And Em — what is that? Previously, it was Middle. Now it’s Powerful. O — Ordinary, and Es remains Weak.
Okay?
Okay
---
Then that very someone begins translating subtitles in animation clips that precede and conclude the arcade mode. It doesn’t turn out very well because he struggled in the fifth and sixth grades of school. Sometimes he adds an extra comma, or misses a letter:
-
Post-match remarks were also entrusted to him for translation:
---
The badges-patches, which are given for various merits in the game and online game, our someone also translated with enthusiasm:
the gypsy chicken on pebbles
---
And finally the funniest thing, the challenge mode:
I’m sure you would do the same as me. Well, that is, jump after which to kick. After such hits were not counted, new paths began to be sought. And they were indeed found:
And it works in the opposite direction too:
one
and two
This way, the already well-known someone cleverly switched the names of the moves.
---
And there are plenty of such absurdities, mistakes, curiosities, and typos in the localization. You can, of course, turn a blind eye to them, but they do slightly spoil the impression.
There is none of this in the English version, and there can be no excuses.
I hope the company 1C will be as ashamed as comrade Dan:
