B&D Institute of Business and Design Hosts Game Design Day
On February 7, the B&D Institute of Business and Design will host Game Design Day — an event organized for those who want to understand how the gaming industry works, try their hand at game development, and see if a career as a game designer is right for them.
Event Schedule:
11:00–14:00 | Intensive "Game Design: Creating Your First 2D Game on Unity"
An opportunity for anyone interested to try their hand at game development and take the first step.
Instructor: Yan Basharin
Separate registration is required.
13:30 | Opening of the Game Showcase Zone:
The main area of the event will feature computers with games made by students. Attendees will be able to try out all the projects in person and talk to the developers, as well as visit an indie fair to purchase unique art items and see how education is structured in the field of game design and the gaming industry.
14:00–15:00 | Presentation of the direction "Game Design"
Faculty members will explain how the education is structured, what skills students acquire, and what career paths are available to graduates.
Speaker: Alexander Vetushinsky, Head of Game Design Profile
15:00–16:00 | Lecture "Pipeline for Creating Game Locations" + Q&A
A lecture on how to efficiently plan the production of a game level to avoid unnecessary and redundant work and achieve high quality results. The main part of the meeting will be dedicated to participants' questions. It is recommended to prepare questions in advance; topics can range from level design of specific genres to technical solutions within specific tasks.
Speaker: Vasily Skobeleva, Head of Level Design at the online school "Narratorika" and studio Clockwork Drakkar
16:00–17:00 | Lecture "PnL of a Project: How, Why, and What for" + Q&A
In simple terms about the financial side of gaming projects: how money is distributed, what is important to consider in the economics of a project, and why without PnL it is difficult to plan development and release.
Speaker: Andrey Karelin, Head of Business Development VK Play
17:00–18:00 | Lecture "Context in Game Narrative"
About context as a universal tool that works at all stages of game development — from advertising and communication with the audience to narrative and system design. Real project examples will be analyzed, showing how context shapes meaning, manages player expectations, and affects the perception of the story — even where, at first glance, there is 'no narrative'.
Speaker: Vitaly Aleksashin, Narrative Designer at Banzai Games and Brigada Games, Curator of the "Narrative Design" course at Scream School.
In addition to presentations and showcases, those interested can sign up for preparatory courses, get advice on admission conditions, and take a tour of the Institute, showcasing classrooms, project workshops, and computer labs.
Entry to the event is free, but prior registration is required on the site. More details can also be found there.
